Coordinated by the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) with the support of ChileCarne – association that represents the ChilePork sector brand, with which Chilean pork is recognized in different countries around the world – the summer campaign aims to raise travelers’ awareness about the importance of not introducing animal or plant-based products that could threaten the country’s biosecurity.

Every summer, Santiago’s international airport becomes the focus of an information and prevention campaign, with strategically-placed digital ads meant to prevent the entry of exotic diseases into Chile, such as African swine fever (ASF).

The campaign, which started four years ago, coincides with the  Southern Hemisphere summer holiday season and focuses on capturing the attention of international travelers. “Our support for this campaign shows ChileCarne’s commitment to our plant and animal health, which is a competitive advantage for Chilean food exports,” explained Juan Carlos Domínguez, president of ChileCarne.

The Chilean pork and poultry industry has focused on biosecurity as a key competitive advantage. The strategy has helped the country develop a first-rate exporting sector, reaching the most demanding markets around the world. In addition to the increased efforts to prevent the entry of diseases, ChileCarne has also supported SAG by strengthening border infrastructure, donating detection dogs to the Canine Brigade, and providing specialized equipment to official laboratories.

The campaign at the Nuevo Pudahuel International Airport and the ongoing evolution of biosecurity practices in the white meat industry showcase Chile’s commitment to protecting its status as a world-class food producer and exporter. The initiative emphasizes the need to work together to safeguard the country’s animal and plant health, a critical element to continue leading the global food market.
