“Chile Conscious Origin” Program begins positioning strategy for its different audiences: producers, exporters, public institutions, organizations and academia

Given the challenge of the Chilean agri-food sector to keep increasing its productivity in a sustainable way, decoupling the use of natural resources from economic and productive growth and making a contribution to the environment and the society, a series of activities have been conducted in the past few weeks to promote and position “Chile Conscious Origin,” a program led by the Office of Agricultural Research and Policies (ODEPA) of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture to get the country to be recognized – locally and internationally – as a supplier of safe, healthy, and sustainable food.

On September 13th, the program launched its positioning campaign on social media, specifically on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.  The goal is to promote the benefits of its implementation for companies from various sectors as well as what it means to comply with globally recognized sustainability standards. The following day, ODEPA was part of the APEC forum “Understanding the role and impact of voluntary sustainability standards” to promote trade within the region. On this occasion, the program was presented to representatives of APEC’s 21 member countries as well as international organizations related to voluntary standards.

In addition, ODEPA is leading various meetings to promote the program’s adoption. As a first step, they met with Chile’s Agricultural Attachés in places such as Japan, ASEAN, the Americas, and Europe.

On September 28th, ODEPA and ChileCarne were part of a Sustainability Conference organized by MSD Animal Health –a laboratory specializing in livestock—to explain the advantages of joining this program.

Daniela Álvarez, ChileCarne’s Sustainability Manager explains: “an important feature of the program is that each producer can self-evaluate from the beginning, learning where they stand in terms of sustainability, their position on the map, and obtaining guidance on how to move forward.”
