ChilePork attended WOAH’s Assembly, a meeting focused on animal health and welfare

ChileCarne’s president, Juan Carlos Domínguez, association that represents the sectorial brand ChilePork, with which Chilean pork is recognized in different countries of the world, participated in the 90th General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). At this major event for the global livestock industry, a total of 31 resolutions were adopted to improve animal health and welfare around the world.

The assembly, which took place from Sunday, May 21 to Thursday, May 25, 2023, brought together more than 1,000 participants, including representatives from WOAH’s 183 members, regional and international organizations, observer countries and territories, and other interested parties.

Representatives from Chile’s Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) were in attendance, including Carlos Orellana, head of the Livestock Protection Division, and Hugo Araya, head of the Animal Health Department, together with the president of ChileCarne, Juan Carlos Domínguez.

For five days, participants from around the world were immersed in debates and discussions at the first in-person General Session since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the meeting, national delegates adopted new resolutions and pledged to step up control of Avian influenza, an animal disease that has affected the entire world in recent years.

A highlight of the session was the Animal Health Forum, which focused on exploring options to manage the risk of this disease and discussing strategies that can adapt to its constant evolution.

During the event, a total of 31 resolutions were adopted with the goal of improving animal health and welfare worldwide. In addition, 52 international standards were established for the prevention and control of terrestrial and aquatic animal diseases, animal welfare, diagnostic methods, and vaccine quality.

The participation of ChileCarne’s president in this important gathering shows the commitment of the Chilean white meat industry to strengthening animal health on a global level. Attending this event allowed him to share experiences, knowledge, and best practices with meat industry representatives from around the world.
