ChilePork seeks to negotiate zoning protocol to protect pork exports in adverse scenarios

During his visit to Asia, ChileCarne’s president Juan Carlos Domínguez – association that represents the sectorial brand ChilePork, with which Chilean pork is recognized in different countries of the world – met with Chile’s ambassadors to South Korea, Japan, and China to discuss the importance of validating a zoning protocol for Chile in the event of African swine fever entering the country.

The meetings between the Chilean ambassadors to South Korea, Mathias Francke; to China, Mauricio Hurtado; and to Japan, Ricardo Rojas, were held at a crucial moment following the incursion of Avian influenza in Chile. This has demonstrated the importance of zoning protocols as a measure to maintain export continuity from zones free of disease, such as Avian influenza for poultry and African swine fever for pigs. Emphasis was placed on the importance of defining and delimiting zones that may allow exports to continue without jeopardizing biosecurity and the industry’s reputation.

With this in mind, ChileCarne has adopted a proactive stance and is working to raise awareness in the countries to which it exports pork, which is why this was a relevant topic of discussion with each of the ambassadors of the Asian countries that were visited in the recent ChilePork tour.

The main idea behind this initiative is to validate the Contingency Plan and the zoning protocol for ASF that has been developed by the industry jointly with SAG. This measure will not only ensure export continuity, but also bolster the confidence of international markets in the quality and safety of meat produced in Chile.
