Danish Embassy and ChileCarne explore potential collaboration

On March 11, officials from the Royal Danish Embassy in Chile and ChileCarne gathered to discuss the growth of Chile’s swine and poultry sectors and to identify potential areas for future collaboration between the two countries.

The Danish delegation consisted of the recently appointed Commercial Attaché, Mai Birch Hansen, and embassy intern Anna Vendelboe. The meeting was led by Juan Carlos Domínguez, President of ChileCarne, accompanied by Daniela Álvarez, Sustainability Manager, and María Ignacia Essedin from the Sustainability team.

Participants discussed the development of Chile’s swine and poultry industry, considering its improvements in production, health, and sustainability. The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange views on the sector’s global challenges and opportunities in international food trade and to analyze potential opportunities for bilateral cooperation, drawing on Denmark’s experience in areas such as animal production, technological innovation, and solutions for more efficient and sustainable agri-food production.

ChileCarne actively promotes knowledge sharing with international stakeholders to support the ongoing competitive and sustainable growth of the Chilean meat industry in global markets.

Denmark is recognized as the leading producer and exporter of suckling pigs, and it has one of the largest pig populations on the continent, one that far exceeds the country’s human population. Denmark’s pig population currently stands at 12.3 million, compared with its 5.9 million people.

About 90% of Danish pig production is exported, serving as a crucial component of the country’s trade balance and a significant source of income. Pork exports alone represent over 5% of Denmark’s total exports.

The country’s leadership in the industry is explained by a high degree of specialization and a steady increase in productivity, fostered by a robust technology services and solutions sector driven by innovation.

Currently, the country offers a catalog of over thirty-three companies focused on various fields, including advanced animal nutrition, high-capacity booster pump technologies, and optimized cooling systems. These technologies aim to enhance efficiency across the supply chain and ensure the competitiveness of this vital economic sector in target markets. Companies also seek to attract foreign currency by exporting specialized technologies and services.
